"Everything is a press release, even if it's not formatted that way."

      About Me

      Picture
Through my education and my professional and personal lives, I have experienced corporate culture on the east and west coasts of the United States, attended school in two American cities and two European cities (as well as a two-week stint at a German high school). I have worked independently, as part of a team, and as team leader. I have given speeches, listened to speeches, and even interviewed one of the most influential people in contemporary public relations.

In 2009 I  completed my MA from Cardiff University (in Wales) in International Public Relations. This program not only helped me foster teamwork skills but also gave me the opportunity to participate in a mock press conference on the subject of gun control in the United States and numerous presentations. Assignments included creating a marketing plan for launching a product abroad; running a focus group; writing a speech; and understanding the importance of law on the public relations industry.

The most important education I got from this degree was that which was obtained outside the classroom. The MA IPR program consisted of students from all over the world and I found myself in groups with people from western and eastern Europe, Africa, and Asia. This afforded me the opportunity to expand my cultural sensitivity, teaching me to adjust my communication tactics based on my audience.

Before going to Cardiff, I obtained my BS in Integrated Marketing Communications from the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. My favorite subjects always related to writing and public relations, but on a whim my senior year I made the decision to participate in the American Advertising Federation's National Student Advertising Competition. Not only was this an exciting opportunity to create a real-world advertising plan with my peers, it was a chance to cement my decision to further my knowledge of public relations rather than advertising.

My interests are wide and varied, and include the general lifestyle field as well as event planning. I am also interested in nonprofit organizations, healthcare, and crisis communications. Really, anything new presents an exciting challenge for me.

I am diligent and dedicated, and excited to move forward with my career. Currently, I am working in the marketing department of the Wildlife Conservation Society, a fantastic first job. Although I am not technically using my degree in public relations, I am strengthening my communication skills through managing and promoting events and marketing WCS's five parks.
